Research Areas
Communications Engineering
Communications engineering focuses on the fundamentals of communications systems which are applicable to both wired and wireless communications. This research field plays an important role and lays the foundation for the formation and development of advanced and modern communications systems such as 4G/5G wireless communications, satellite communications, digital television systems, and optical communications. Research projects in this field involve analysis, design, implementation, testing, evaluation, and improvement of communications technologies such as source coding, channel coding, modulation, detection, multiplexing, and multiple accesses.
Communications Network
Communications network research focuses on design and performance evaluation of data communication in both wire and wireless environment, including LAN and WAN, wireless and cellular networks, Ad-hoc networks and Wireless Sensor Networks. Many aspects and projects are explored including analysis and improvement of protocols in existing networks, development of new high-performance protocols, design network architecture, prototype systems and applications.
Digital Signal Processing and Applications
Microwave Engineering and Integrated Circuits
Microwave Engineering and Integrated Circuits areas focus on the study and design of circuits, components and systems for communications and radar applications operating at RF, Microwave and Millimeter-wave frequencies. The current researches in these fields cover a wide range of topics including electromagnetic modeling and propagation, analysis, design, fabrication and measurement of microwave passive and active components, antenna and phased-array system design, and RF/Microwave transceiver architectures. The design of Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) and Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFICs) for small size, low cost, high yield and improved performance are especially focused on for modern wireless communications systems. Researches and designs of advanced concurrent multi-band multi-mode RF/Microwave circuits and systems concurrently working on multiple frequency bands are also being conducted.
